There are a variety of types of window screens. Remove most styles of window screens by sliding the mechanism on each side of the bottom of the screen frame, then lift the screen in its track and pull out by the bottom of the frame. Take your time removing the screen to prevent damage to the black fiberglass mesh. Black fiberglass window screens can tear easily if they are rubbed against a sharp surface, so be careful where you place them and how they are carried.
Place the fiberglass window screen in a tub or clean outside. Mix a bucket of warm soapy water. Use a cleaning rag to wash the black mesh screen. Start from the top and rinse with clear water to remove the soap and remaining soil. Gently dry with a towel or allow to dry in a sunny location. If you do not have a screening roller, use a narrow flat-edged tool, such as a flat screwdriver, to carefully press the screen gasket back into position in the track.
